Meet in Canmore and First Climbs
The tour begins in Canmore, where you’ll review the itinerary ahead, enjoy a coffee, and begin learning about basic scrambling techniques and hazards. Review how to scramble without damaging the environment, how to tell the difference between classes of terrain, how to routefind, and how to move in loose terrain. In the afternoon, bag a summit or two with your newfound skills.

Scrambling in the Rockies
Head out from Canmore early in the morning to find some good scrambles to try today. You could be climbing Heart Mountain, Mt. Yamnuska, Mt. Baldy, or Loder Peak. Spend the whole day up in the mountains sharpening your skills and building your confidence. At the end of the day, you’ll return home feeling very, very accomplished!

There are no accommodations included on this tour. You will need to arrange your own accommodations if needed, but we are happy to help. Guests may be able to receive a discount on Clique Hotel bookings.

Non-Standard Cancellation

  • 60 days or more prior to departure: the cancellation fee will be 10% of the total trip cost (at least $150 CAD).
  • 59 days or less prior to departure: the cancellation fee will be 100% of the total trip cost.

How do I get to Canmore to start this tour?

Fly into the Calgary International Airport (YYC). We recommend you rent a car as there is no included transportation between Calgary and Canmore on this tour. Canmore is about an hour from Calgary.

Is the Scrambling Skills and Safety tour guided?

Yes, you will be learning from and supervised by an experienced guide.

Where does the Scrambling Skills and Safety tour end?

The tour ends after you complete your hike. You will be responsible for finding your own way back to the airport after the tour.

What do I need to bring?

You will be provided with crampons, mountaineering ice axes, climbing harnesses, helmets, and all other technical equipment. Please bring:

  • Daypack (30-40 litres)
  • Lunch, snacks
  • Water bottle (full!)
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen, SPF lip balm
  • Camera
  • Blister kit
  • First aid items (guides carry a first aid kit, but you may bring your own Band-Aids and anti-inflammatory medication if desired)
  • Trekking poles
  • Bear spray (recommended)

Do I need special vaccines to travel to Canada?

Are there any travel restrictions for Canada?
