Meet in Canmore and Begin Hiking
You’ll begin your tour with an early morning meeting in Canmore to check your gear and prepare for the trip ahead. Drive to the trailhead and spend the morning hiking through the Mosquito Creek Valley before ascending to Quartzite Col. Here you’ll get your first peeks of Mount Willingdon. Descend steeply into the Siffleur Valley, where you’ll camp surrounded by rolling meadows near one of the Devon Lakes.

Summit of Mount Willingdon
Today is the day! Get an early start on a beautiful trail that passes Devon Lake to ascend Mount Willingdon. The route isn’t technically difficult, but there is some exposure and light scrambling required. You’ll crest the West Ridge to reach the summit, where you’ll be met with incredible views over the nearby icefield, Clearwater Mountain, and Mount Crown. If the conditions allow and you’re interested, you can traverse to Mount Crown at nearly 11,000 feet. To end the day, descend back down to camp feeling incredibly accomplished.

This guided hiking tour in the Canadian Rockies is run as a private tour for your group. Please note that due to very high demand and limited availability in campgrounds it is necessary to plan your trip a long time in advance.

All the prices are on request.

Transportation during the Tour

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to Canmore. We recommend renting a car or booking a shuttle from Calgary. You’ll have to drive to the trailhead with your own vehicle.

This tour is based in modern 2 or 3-person weather-proof tents. There are no facilities available, so please come prepared for a backcountry experience.

Single Rooms and Solo Travelers
There are no single rooms available on this tour as all accommodations are communal. The minimum group size is 3 people, so please contact us about joining an existing group if you are a solo traveller.

Non-Standard Cancellation

  • 60 days or more prior to departure: the cancellation fee will be 10% of the total trip cost (at least $150 CAD).
  • 59 days or less prior to departure: the cancellation fee will be 100% of the total trip cost.

Fly into the Calgary International Airport (YYC). We recommend you rent a car as there is no included transportation between Calgary and Canmore on this tour. Canmore is about an hour from Calgary.

Yes, you will be led by an experienced guide.

Where does the Guided Ascent of Mount Willingdon tour end?

The tour ends after you complete your hike. You will be responsible for finding your own way back to the airport after the tour.

What do I need to bring?

You will be provided with crampons, mountaineering ice axes, climbing harnesses, helmets, and all other technical equipment. Please bring:

  • Mountaineering boots (must be crampon compatible)
  • Multiday pack (60–75 litres)
  • Daypack (30-40 litres, optional)
  • Water bottle (1-2 litres)
  • Sunglasses
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad (available for rent)
