Alta Via Val Venosta Walking Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Day 1: Arrival in Resia

Overnight Location - Hotel in Resia | Distance - None | Meals - None

Arrive with public transport or private transfer to Resia, check-in at the accommodation and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Dolomites and take a stroll along the lake.

Day 2

Day 2: Walk to Planol

Overnight Location - Hotel in Planol | Distance - 8 hours, 15.5-20.5km, 778m of ascent | Meals - Breakfast, lunch, dinner

It's a long but gentle walk through villages, forests, and pastures with a stretch along the Resia Lake. You pass next to the River Adige spring, which is worth a stop. Along the way, you have great views of the surrounding mountain chains and the Lake. You can shorten the walk by starting from Curon Venosta.

Day 3

Day 3: Walk to Sluderno/Malles

Overnight Location - Hotel in Malles | Distance - 5 hours, 15km, 389m of ascent | Meals - Breakfast

Today, walk along the mountainside which dominates the upper Val Venosta. Along the way you can enjoy great views of the Ortles massif and the villages of Glorenza, Burgusio and Malles. The route runs mostly on gravel tracks and footpaths. In Sluderno you can make a short detour to visit the famous Coira Castle.

Day 4

Day 4: Agri Avionshof to Tanas Walking Trip & Transfer to Lasa and Silandro

Overnight Location - Hotel in Silandro | Distance - 5 hours, 15km, 589m of ascent | Meals - Breakfast

This morning you are transferred uphill to the Agriturismo Avionshof, where the walk starts. It's a panoramic hike along the mountainside which dominates the upper Val Venosta. Along the way you can enjoy great views of the Ortles massif and the villages in the valley floor. The route runs mostly on gravel tracks and footpaths.

Day 5

Day 5: Walk in Tanas Village to Silandro

Overnight Location - Hotel in Silandro | Distance - 7 hours, 17.8-19km, 481m of ascent | Meals - Breakfast

Today a short transfer by car will lead you to the tiny village of Tanas. Take a long but gentle walk along the mountainside with great views over the valley and the mountain chain between the Val Martello and Stelvio Pass. Along the way you can see the Hohe Angelusspitze, the Laaser Spitze and the Tschenglser Hochwand. Today it is possible to make a short detour to see a waterfall.

Day 6

Day 6: Val Martello Loop Walk

Overnight Location - Hotel in Silandro | Distance - 5 hours, 11km, 920m of ascent | Meals - Breakfast

Take the bus to Val Martello. Today’s adventure is a relatively easy walk that runs through the mountain area where the village of Martello is set. You walk the entire day in one of the most spectacular areas of Stelvio National Park. Along the itinerary, you can enjoy great views of the lower Val Martello and Ortles massif. You can shorten the route following the signs for Martello Paese. Along the route, it is possible to take a short detour to a magnificent viewpoint.

Day 7

Day 7: Transfer to S. Martino al Monte and Walk to Stava

Overnight Location - Hotel in Merano | Distance - 4 hours, 12km, 173m of ascent | Meals - Breakfast

Transfer to Laces. Here, hop on the cable car to San Martino a Monte, where the walk starts. It's a gentle walk that runs along the mountain slope at the end of Venosta Valley. You can enjoy great views of the lower valley and the mountain chains which delimitate the valley. Along the way, it Is possible to do a short detour to Castel Juval. At the end of the walk, take the train to Merano.

Day 8

Day 8: Arrivederci Dolomiti!

Overnight Location - None | Distance - None | Meals - Breakfast

You can arrive at Innsbruck Airport (INN) and Verona Airport (VRN). From Innsbruck you can take a bus or a train to reach the central train station or you could opt for a shuttle from the airport. From Verona airport you can take a shuttle that runs every 20 minutes to and from the central train station. When you are in Verona Porta Nuova railway station, take a train to Merano. From Merano a private transfer/train will take you to the Malles, where you can take the bus to Resia.

Where does the Alta Via Val Venosta Walking Tour end?

The tour ends in Merano. You can take the train or bus to your departure airport.
