Route Description for Wildcat Canyon Trail
Although the Wildcat Canyon Trail is not known for its show-stopping views, the beauty is in the details on this trail. Creek crossings and fields of wildflowers make this a perfect path for those seeking peace and serenity in Zion National Park. The relative quietness of this trail makes it a great spot to see desert wildlife such as mule deer, peregrine falcons, and rocky mountain elk. This trail has sections of both sun and shade, so bring layers and be prepared for temperature changes, especially if you start out early in the morning. As with all trails in Zion, bring lots of water with you. Though many creeks intersect your path, the water here is not safe to drink even when treated.
Follow the well-defined trail eastward from the Wildcat Canyon Trailhead off of Kolob Canyons Road. You will quickly come upon a series of offshoot trails; stick left. The trail meanders through the desert landscape for 7.6 km before ending at the Lava Point trailhead. From here, you can extend your day by exploring the West Rim Trail that shoots down south from the Lava Point Trailhead, or you can turn around and head back to the Wildcat Canyon Trailhead, following the way you came.
