Route Description for Timber Creek Overlook Trail
The Timber Creek Overlook Trail is an easy hike that the whole family can enjoy. Even though this hike is short, be sure to bring water with you as it is exposed to the sun. This trail can also get quite muddy in the spring and fall, so be aware and watch your step. This out-and-back walk is a good choice for families or those with young children. The one-mile-out-and-back offers stunning views of Zion landmarks such as Shuntavi Butte, Red Butte, and the Kolob finger canyons.
Starting at the Kolob Canyons Viewpoint Parking lot, head to the west end of the lot to find the trailhead for the Timber Creek Overlook Trail. The trail itself swoops southward past picnic tables and restrooms near the parking lot and then heads into the desert. A gradual ascent up a sandy trail will quickly deliver you to the Timber Creek Overlook.
The Overlook itself offers stunning views of the Canyon. To your East, you can see the finger canyons, Shuntavi Butte, and Timber Top Mountain. To the south you can see Red Butte standing alone against the horizon. For an extra special experience, we recommend walking this trail at sunset to catch the last light of the day shining across the valley.
