Route Description for Dewey Point via McGurk Meadow Trail
Seeking unparalleled vistas of Yosemite Valley? The Dewey Point via McGurk Meadow Trail is an amazing hike to an epic overlook of the dramatic corridor that separates the rugged granite summits of Sierra Nevada. Though much of the path travels through woodlands, the overlook is situated along the sheer cliffside. Be sure to keep your distance when hiking here, especially when the rocks are slippery after rainfall. The Yosemite National Park charges an entrance fee; refer to the NPS website for the pricing guide and additional information.
Setting out from the trailhead, the Dewey Point via McGurk Meadow Trail follows the McGurk Meadow Trail northeast through lush meadowlands that boast views of the granite peaks lining the horizon. After passing by a rundown log cabin and bridge, you will reach an intersection and veer left onto Pohono Trail. This path wanders west through conifer forests lined with verdant moss. Soon the path will begin to climb up to the summit of Dewey Point.
From the granite bluff, you will be granted awe-inspiring vistas of El Capitan, Half Dome, and Sentinel Point in the east. Admire the dramatic landscape and, when you are ready, head back the way you came to the trailhead.
