Route Description for Artist Point Trail
Not only are the vistas from the overlook beautiful, but the trek through the mixed pine forest is equally as picturesque along the Artist Point Trail. Revealing the grandeur of Yosemite Valley, this adventure is a photographer’s oasis—so make sure to charge your camera! This excursion is a spontaneous fresh air escape to get you out of the car and stretch your legs. Note that Yosemite National Park charges an entrance fee; check out the NPS website for the pricing guide.
After parking your car across the street from the trailhead, make sure to bask in the Tunnel View before setting out from the trailhead. From the Artist Point Trailhead, the Artist Point Trail tracks southwest up several sets of switchbacks through a mixed pine forest. Eventually, you will reach an intersection and veer left to be diverted onto Old Wawona Road. Hike this path east until you reach the outcrop and Artist Creek.
From here, you will experience inspiring views of Yosemite Valley through the tree breaks. Revel in the grandeur of the granite domes that adorn the terrain and, when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
