Route Description for Hidden Valleys of Wharfedale Walk
While it may be a bit of a longer and more physically strenuous route, the Hidden Valleys of Wharfedale Walk is one of the best adventures in the Yorkshire Dales, thanks to its beautifully scenic landscape across both Littondale and Langstrothdale.
Setting out from the trailhead in Litton, you will make your way to the northwest along the valley floor, taking in the views of the surrounding hills as you follow closely alongside Halton Gill Beck. Reaching the village of Halton Gill, you will climb uphill to the northeast and traverse the rugged terrain of the moor until you reach the summit of Horse Head.
Enjoy the views here of both valleys before descending the opposite side of the hill to make your way into the village of Yockenthwaite. Turn to the southeast and follow along the banks of the River Wharfe towards Buckden. Just before reaching the village, you will turn to the southwest and climb back uphill once more, traversing the high ground between the two dales before making your descent into Litton where you began.
