Route Description for Bolton Abbey and Barden Moor Walk
Popular with long-distance walkers looking to explore the stunning landscape of Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Bolton Abbey and Barden Moor Walk is a fascinating route that will take you through charming riverside settings and the rugged landscape of the moor.
The overall length of the route will likely deter some less-experienced walkers; however, the trail itself isn’t really all that challenging. Setting out from the village of Bolton Abbey, you will head northwest across the open fields before transitioning onto the barren landscape of the moor.
After passing by the calm waters of the Upper and Lower Barden reservoirs, you will pass by the historic Barden Tower that dates back to the late 15th Century and was used as a hunting lodge and later a garrison during the Jacobite uprisings. From here, you will follow along the scenic banks of the River Wharfe, passing by the Bolton Priory on the return to the car park.
