Route Description for Askrigg to Aysgarth Walk
If you are looking to test out a longer route and would enjoy walking on an elevated position with a scenic return along the banks of a river, the walk from Askrigg to Aysgarth is the perfect route to do so. Featuring stunning views of the Wensleydale landscape and the opportunity to gaze out at the Lower, Middle, and Upper Aysgarth waterfalls, this route will not disappoint in the scenery department.
Setting out from the trailhead in Askrigg, you will head to the northeast to make your way through town, climbing up the hillside to reach the village of Newbiggin. From here, you will make your way to the southeast, as you traverse an elevated position with sweeping views across the valley below.
After passing through Caperby and reaching the banks of the River Ure, follow them west to reach the stunning viewpoints overlooking the Aysgarth waterfalls. Continuing alongside the winding banks of the River Ure, you will make your way along the vibrant green valley floor until you arrive back at the starting point of the walk in Askrigg.
Getting to the Askrigg to Aysgarth Walk Trailhead
To get to the trailhead for the Askrigg to Aysgarth Walk from Hawes, drive east on Burtersett Road/A684 for 3.8mi and make a slight right to continue on for another 56ft. Turn left onto Bainbridge Hawes and follow it for 495ft, continuing straight for 0.3mi. Make a right and follow the road for 1.0mi to arrive at the trailhead.Route Information
