Route Description for Monument Geyser Basin Trail
The Monument Geyser Basin Trail is a short and sweet hiking route. Although this route is only 3.7 km round-trip, it is seriously steep the whole way and is guaranteed to give you a workout. Proper hiking footwear is essential for this trail, and we strongly recommend bringing a set of hiking poles to aid your ascent and save your knees some strain on the way back down. Besides lots of water and a snack to enjoy at the top, you will want to pack a camera; the Monument Geyser Basin trail views are incredible.
Beginning at the trailhead, follow the path as it ascends sharply up to the Monument Geyser Basin. Check out the interesting thermal features in the area and, of course, Monument Geyser itself, which regularly emits puffs of steam and small spurts of hot water.
When you are ready to head home, simply retrace your steps back to the Monument Geyser Basin Trailhead, where you began.
