Route Description for Sacred Rim Hike
A magnet for photographers and sightseers alike, the Scared Rim Trail is surprisingly lightly trafficked. A hidden gem in the Wind River Mountain Range, this route boasts isolation and incredible views. Note the actual trail to the overlook is overgrown, steep in sections, and primitive—though it is manageable without a trail GPS. Note that young children may have some difficulty navigating the vertiginous sections of the hike, though older children and novice hikers should be fine. Be sure to maintain a safe distance from the cliffside.
Once your camera is charged, set out on your adventure from the Pole Creek Trailhead. Setting out from here, the Pole Creek Trail will guide you east to an intersection. Here, you will be diverted off the beaten path and over Faler Creek. From here, the Sacred Rim Trail will begin to climb into the mixed-pine forestlands. Mind your footing on the rocks and routes that obstruct the path as you navigate the undulating route.
Soon the path will open to the Sacred Rim Overlook. This mesmerizing view of the Wind River Mountain Range and Long Lake below will render you speechless. Admire the beauty and grandeur of the granite oasis that stretches for as far as the eye can see. When you are through reveling in the scenery, retrace your footing back to the trailhead.
