The Emerald Forest Trail is a scenic woodland hiking route near Whistler that is especially popular with families that have young children due to the easy terrain and opportunities to spot local wildlife. Without any real elevation changes or technical terrain, this route is more of a leisurely walk in the woods and can be enjoyed by hikers of all ages and skill levels. Despite the forest-laden path, you can still see some of the surrounding mountains at certain points of the hike.. And the trail’s proximity to nearby marshes and the River of Golden Dreams makes it likely that you will be able to see some local wildlife, including various species of birds. This short route is perfect for a quiet weekend in the city or as a quick weekday stroll.
Getting to the Emerald Forest Trail Trailhead
To reach the trailhead for the Emerald Forest Trail from Whistler, drive north on BC-99 N and make a left turn onto Alpine Way. After 623ft, make another left onto Rainbow Drive and follow it for 0.7mi, where it will veer slightly left and become Alta Lake Road. Continue on for another 984ft, where the trailhead will be on your left.Route Information
