Route Description for Swakane Wildlife Area Hike

Explore the Swakane Unit, which is home to a range of species of wildlife thanks to its varied topography. Stop by to spot the resident bighorn sheep, check out the endangered plant species, and just enjoy being in nature. You can travel further down the road in your car to shorten your trip if desired.

From the trailhead, follow the obvious route to a Y-junction. Stay left here. You’ll begin to ascend the hill, which is a bit steep. The ascent is short, though, so kids should be able to make it to the top fairly easily. From the top, soak up the views and spot all the animals you can before retracing your steps.
