Route Description for Sabino Lake Loop
The Sabino Lake Loop is a wonderful easy hike in the Sabino Canyon Recreation Area near Tucson. It’s conveniently accessible from the northeastern edge of the city near the Pusch Ridge Wilderness. The scenery in this park is excellent and there’s an impressive array of plant and animal species to look for. This hike is a good pick if you want to enjoy the canyon area’s scenery but want to pass on the more strenuous trails that lead into the canyon.
This area is known for its diversity of bird species, so birders and casual enthusiasts alike will want to keep their eyes on the sky. You can also appreciate the flora of the desert in all its glory. Even though this is an easier hike, you’ll still want to bring water with you and avoid hiking in the heat of the day.
From the trailhead, take the route just north of E Remount Place towards the canyon. At the fork in the trail, go left to trace the wash. Sabino Lake is visible from up here, and you can look ahead into the canyon. Hiking along the wash, you’ll turn left onto N Upper Sabino Canyon Road to begin your return trip. Follow this road all the way back to the trailhead.
