Route Description for Pink Hill, Loma Verde, Cholla, and Cactus Forest Loop
The Pink Hill, Loma Verde, Cholla, and Cactus Forest Loop is an interesting hike that makes use of the network of trails in Tucson’s Saguaro National Park East. While this park is known for its higher elevation trails in comparison to Saguaro National Park West, this loop offers views without making you work very hard. It’s gently undulating in some parts and flat in others, making it ideal for beginners and families. You’ll hike past an impressive carpet of prickly pears with saguaros and chollas dotting the landscape.
The network of trails in this area is well-marked, but if you want to do some adventuring or customize your hike, having a downloaded map on hand could be helpful. Although this is an easy route, make sure you pack water and wear sun protection.
From the trailhead, take Cactus Forest Trail (second from your left). Stay left onto Cholla Trail. Cross a wash, then take a left onto Loma Verde Trail. At the next junction, go left to cross another wash. Continue straight through the next junction, then go left onto Shantz. This will lead you back to the trailhead.
