Route Description for Bowen Trail
Arizona is covered with trails that lead you to interesting ruins and artifacts, and Bowen House is one of them, a long-abandoned stone home that sits in what’s now the Tucson Mountain Park. This hike is very easy and enjoyable, and the house is interesting to check out. This is a good hike for families and beginners and the house makes for a pleasant picnic spot.
There are caves rumored to be further down the trail from the house, so adventurous hikers can go a bit further if they want to try and find them. As with all hikes in this area, bring lots of water and get an early start to avoid the heat of the day.
From W Starr Pass Road just past the hotel, you’ll hike northwest along a creek bed. Stay left where another trail splits off to the right. You’ll hike through a flat clearing in the hills to the house, which is located just before the junction with Yetman Trail. If you want to try and find the caves, go left at the junction. Otherwise, take some time to check out the house and enjoy your lunch before turning back and retracing your steps.
