Route Description for Duck Lake Loop
Hiking this trail makes for an incredible adventurer. Immerse yourself in the alpine terrain and watch the grazing cattle as you wander to the lake. If you seek an easy-going day hike, you will enjoy this trek! We encourage you to dress in layers as the weather conditions can change on a dime! Additionally, as much of the path is exposed, we encourage you to wear sun protection to beat overexposure. Note the path can be tricky to find, so we encourage you to use a trail GPS.
Setting out from the trailhead, the Duck Lake Loop follows the Highland Creek Trail southeast. This path will briefly climb up to the top of a rocky ridge before dipping back down into the alpine basin. You will eventually confront an intersection, keep left here, and you will be diverted onto the Duck Lake Bypass Trail. Follow this route through the meadowlands and past Duck Lake. At the next intersection, keep right, and you will reconnect with the Highland Creek Trail. Follow this path west before detouring around the granite knoll before merging onto the Pack Trail.
Follow the Pack Trail before reconnecting with the Highland Creek Trail. Follow this route back up the ridge to the trailhead.
