Route Description for Seven Lakes Basin Hike
The alpine terrain is awaiting your exploration, beckoning intrepid adventurers from all around. Wander along a rocky ridge to the glacial basin adorned with charming lakes. Offering amazing alpine views, the exposed terrain also warrants extreme conditions—so dress in layers and check the forecast prior to setting out. Additionally, as the path is uneven and rugged, we encourage hikers to wear a pair of sturdy, ankle bracing footwear; you'll thank us later!
Setting out from the trailhead, the Seven Lakes Basin Hike follows the Pacific Crest Trail southeast. This path will gently climb up to the top of the rocky ridge, exposing wonderful views of the Klamath Mountains and commanding views of Mount Shasta looming on the horizon. Admire the grandeur of the mountain, and continue your trek along the PCT. Eventually, the path will dip a saddle, guiding you to Lake Helen before plunging into the glacial basin.
After navigating the winding terrain, the path will plateau. Explore the cirque laden with charming lakes and rejuvenate your tired feet in the chilly alpine waters. After wandering through the basin, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
