Route Description for Bailey Cove Loop
The Bailey Cove Loop is a revered route along the shoreline of Shasta Lake that offers lovely vistas of the mountainous landscape that bounds the lake. Revel in the beauty of the verdant rolling hills and the shimmering waters of the busy lake. Though this route is less busy than most hikes in the National Forest, you can expect to share the trail in the afternoon, so head out in the early morning for a more secluded adventure.
Setting out from the trailhead, the Bailey Cove Loop can be complete in either direction, but we chose to venture counterclockwise. Turning right onto the Bailey Cove Trail, you will be guided southwardly along the shoreline of the lake. Admire the sights of the bounding mountains as well as the vibrant flora that lines the path. Soon the route will redirect you north, offering expansive views of the lake. Curving northwest, you will begin tracing the shoreline of Bailey Cove, which is often abundant with boats parked at the docks.
If the water is low, you will be able to notice the layered sediment that forms the basin of the lake. Eventually, you will be delivered back to the trailhead, marking the end of your adventure.
