Route Description for Moro Rock Full Trail
Those seeking to add an extension to the short Moro Rock Trail will enjoy this route. Explore the Giant Forest Grove before joining the crowds at the famous granite outcrop that towers above the Kaweah River Valley—boasting epic views of the High Sierra. Note the tail end of this trek sees high traffic, so come prepared to share the trail. Additionally, this route may not be ideal for those with a fear of heights. Don’t forget the park charges an entrance fee of $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.
Setting out from the Giant Forest Grove Museum Parking Lot, the Moro Rock Full Hike tracks over the Generals Highway and onto Crescent Meadow Road. Soon after merging onto this route, you will find the trailhead for the Moro Rock Trail. Wander this route through the mixed coniferous forest interspersed with sequoias adorned with burn scars. Following the Moro Rock Trail, you will ultimately reach the monolith. If conditions permit and the staircase is open, climb up the 300-some steps.
Take your time and mind your footing on the steep stairs etched into the granite outcrop. When you eventually reach the top of the rock, you will be rewarded with panoramic vistas of the Great Western Divide. Revel in the beauty of the mountainous landscape, then, when you are ready, retrace your steps all the way back to the car park.
