Route Description for Don Cecil Trail
The Don Cecil Trail is an amazing adventure worthy of your exploration. Put your stamina to the test as you climb up the rocky slopes of a Sierra Nevada summit above Kings Canyon. Demanding some endurance, this route will reward you with incredible views; just make sure to pack plenty of water to stay fueled along the way! The rocky sections along the route are often slippery, so mind your footing and consider a pair of supportive footwear. Note entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.
Embark on your adventure along the Don Cecil Trail from the signposted trailhead off Kings Canyon Scenic Byway. Immediately following your departure from the trailhead, the path will begin to climb into the woodlands. Soon after setting out, you will intersect with Sheep Creek before navigating switchbacks further into the wilds. Enjoy the sparse views through the tree breaks, and you will eventually intersect with yet another stream.
As you near the trail’s end, the grade will become more intense, demanding careful footing. You will reach your turn-around point at the intersection on the saddle, though you can continue up to the summit of Lookout Peak if you don’t mind a scramble. When you are through exploring and admiring the views, retrace your footing back down to the trailhead.
