Route Description for Buena Vista Trail
Indulge yourself in Kings Canyon, which stretches for miles. This breathtaking overlook of the forested canyon and bounding crests is truly mesmerizing. Offering such an awesome view, this short and scenic hike attracts plenty of visitors, so come prepared to share the trail—though you may be able to enjoy some solitude in quieter times of the day. If you are one of the few to explore in the winter months, be sure to strap on a pair of snowshoes, as this path is often snow-packed! Note entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.
Embark on your adventure along the Buena Vista Trail from the trailhead off the Generals Highway. Setting out from here, this trail will guide you west away from the road before diverting south. Gently climbing through the woodlands, you will likely notice tree burn scars on some of the surrounding trees due to a previous fire. As you near the trail’s end, the tree coverage will become thinner, revealing the views.
You will be granted awe-inspiring panoramas of Kings Canyon and the framing Sierra Nevada summits from atop the rocky overlook. Revel in the beauty and grandeur of this mountainous oasis and snap a few pictures. When you are through admiring the scenery, retrace your steps back to the trailhead.
