Route Description for Turkey Creek Trail
Turkey Creek Trail is a scenic hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trail south of Sedona that boasts wonderful red rock views. This trail sees lighter traffic than many of the routes closer to town, making it a nice pick for days when you want a quieter experience.
This route is out in the desert without much shade, so bring more water than you think you might need. It can get very hot in Sedona between May and October. Additionally, you may not have cell service on this hike, so download your map ahead of time.
Beginning from the road, hike south on the obvious trail. Note that there are a few trails that start from the same road, so we recommend double-checking that you’ve arrived at the correct trailhead.
Hike out along the red earth with buttes and rock formations passing you by. Depending on this time of year, you may encounter small ponds or creeks on the way. There are no junctions, so it’s simple to find your way. This route ends where the trail splits. From here, turn back and retrace your steps to the trailhead. If you don’t want to take on the climb that immediately precedes the end of the trail, you can turn back early.
