Route Description for Sugarloaf Loop Trail
The Sugarloaf Loop Trail is a wonderful hike if you want to maximize your effort to reward ratio. The view over Sedona is gorgeous and it’s only a 3.2 km trek to get there. This trail is easy enough for beginners and families, making it a good hike if you’ve got a mixed ability group that wants a nice view.
This hike is a little variation on the more popular route which heads straight up Sugarloaf and back. It explores the whole trail, which only adds a modest additional distance. If you don’t want the added distance you could cut out the loop.
Beginning from the trailhead, head north on the obvious track. The trail splits, and you’ll want to stay right to get around the north side of Sugarloaf. If you want to do the whole loop, stay left here to hike to the junction with the trail that goes underneath Coffee Pot and stay right to head back to Sugarloaf. Head up Sugarloaf, soak up the views, and then descend. Stay left and then left again to return to the trailhead.
