Route Description for Secret Canyon Trail
Secret Canyon Trail is a beautiful trek in between the mountains of the Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness. It’s a great hike that tends to avoid the crowding that other trails in Sedona experience. Hiking right between Maroon Mountain and Little Round Mountain, you’ll have great vistas for the whole hike.
You’ll need a high-clearance vehicle to reach this trailhead. Traditional passenger cars won’t be able to make it. From the trailhead, the first 4.0 km of the hike is mostly sand and rock. The views aren’t as stellar yet as they will be. Follow the creek, staying right and then left at the two junctions before the trail curves west.
Pine trees begin to scent the air as you cross between Little Round Mountain and Maroon Mountain. The trail may become hard to follow, so make sure you’re referencing a downloaded GPS track to stay on the right trail. The route terminates before a creek crossing, which may or may not have water flowing through it depending on the time of year. From here, turn around and retrace your steps back to the trailhead.
