Route Description for Chimney Rock Pass Loop
Chimney Rock rises above northwestern Sedona, and this trail takes you all of the way around it. This is a great quick win if you want a fast hike that still offers pleasant views. This trail can also be extended using the many interconnecting trails in the area. Expect heavy traffic; getting to the Thunder Mountain Trailhead early is recommended.
From the trailhead, hike straight towards Chimney Rock. We recommend doing the hike clockwise to get the hardest part over with first, although it’s not too difficult. Stay left and loop around the rock, climbing a bit to get over the pass between Chimney Rock and the end of Capitol Butte.
Descend the other side of the pass and stay right at all the junctions that follow. The second half of the hike is the most scenic, so enjoy the view as you go. You’ll reach the bottom of the loop again and finish your hike back at the trailhead.
