Treat yourself to incredible views of the White Cloud Mountains and take a refreshing plunge in the glacial pools hidden in the backcountry. Exhibiting a diversity of flora and fauna along the way, the Washington Lake via White Clouds Trail. While the primarily exposed terrain offers incredible views, it warrants extreme conditions, so dress accordingly, wear sunscreen and pack plenty of water or a water filter.
Setting out from the trailhead, the White Clouds Trail travels eastwardly along a meandering creek, gradually climbing into the wilderness. Alternating between the shade of towering pines and exposed meadows, the path will soon curve southwardly. Here you will confront an intersection; keep right along the path signposted for the Fourth of July Lake. Wander along the shoreline of the first alpine lake of your journey, admiring the beauty of the shimmering pool. Beyond this point, you will ascend a mountain pass before plunging down to Washington Lake.
Revel in the scene of the glacial lake mirroring the ridges of the White Cloud Mountains. Rejuvenate your feet in the chilly waters, then head back along the route back to the trailhead.
