Route Description for Sopris Lake via Brady Lake Trail
Isolated, tranquil, and picturesque, the Sopris Lake via Brady Lake Trail is a must-add to your Sawatch Mountain Range to-do list. Though primitive and overgrown in sections, this trek proves to be one of the most scenic adventures in our opinion, and we suggest using the trail GPS to help navigate the unmarked areas! There are some steep segments of the hike that demand some stamina, but they are manageable for most hikers! Note: the road to the trailhead is rough and requires a vehicle with high ground clearance and 4-wheel drive.
Set out on your trek along the Sopris Lake via Brady Lake Trail from the trailhead at the end of the Missouri Creek Road. From here, the Brady Lake Trail will guide adventurers southwest through a section of pine forests before opening to the alpine meadowlands. Following along Brady Creek, you will eventually reach the shores of Brady Lake. Take some time to appreciate the postcard-worthy scenery of the alpine lake, then head north to Sopris Lake. From here you will be granted an awe-inspiring view of the shimmering waters flanked by looming craggy cliffs.
After reveling in the panorama of Sopris Lake, follow the unmarked path east until you reconnect with the Brady Lake Trail. At this point, simply retrace your footing along the path all the way back to the trailhead.
