Route Description for North Halfmoon Lakes Hike
If you seek a challenge with motivational views, we have found the perfect fit for you. The North Halfmoon Lakes Trail is a stunning excursion through the high country that demands stamina and an intrepid spirit. Make sure to check the forecast before your ascent to mitigate the chances of getting caught in an afternoon storm at the exposed lakes and wear layers! When trekking after the snow falls, wear microspikes and consider trekking poles.
Begin your scenic adventure along the North Halfmoon Lakes Hike from the Mount Massive Southwest Slopes Trailhead. From here, track the path northwest through the woodlands before graduating from the timberline. Once the path opens to the alpine tundra, you will be granted awe-inspiring views of the towering snow-dusted massifs. Eventually, you will encounter an intersection, stay left here, and you will be diverted onto the North Halfmoon Lakes Trail.
Follow this route up to the shimmering alpine lakes in the mountain cirque, bounded by Mount Massive in the east and Mount Oklahoma in the west. Appreciate the grandeur of the immense peaks and dip your tired feet into the inviting waters. When you finish reveling in the scenery, retrace your steps along the path back to the trailhead.
