Route Description for North Fork Lake Creek Trail
Immerse yourself in Colorado’s high country as you venture the North Fork Lake Creek Trail. Located in the basin of Deer Mountain, this trek reveals some of the most astonishing views of the alpine terrain. When traveling to high elevations, it is important to be acclimated to the area’s elevation before your climb. Additionally, high altitudes are prone to early snowfall and extreme weather conditions, so wear microspikes in the fall and winter, and try to summit before noon to mitigate the chances of getting caught in a storm!
Embark on your adventure along the North Fork Lake Creek Trail from the trailhead off State Highway 82. From here, hike north through the alpine tundra along the gurgling waters of the North Fork Lake Creek. Enjoy the ambiance of the creekside atmosphere, while reveling in the views of Deer Mountain, Twining Peak, and Mount Champion looming above. After intersecting with several snow-melt streams, you will meet the trail’s end at the lakeshore.
Rejuvenate your tired feet in the chilly alpine waters of North Fork Lake and admire the grandeur of Colorado’s mountainous wilderness. After you are done admiring the surrounding snow-capped peaks, begin your trek back to the trailhead by retracing your footing along the path.
