The Harvard Lakes via Colorado Trail Segment 21 is a stunning adventure through diverse landscapes up to the Harvard Lakes. This amazing trek exhibits the beauty of pine forests, luxuriant meadowlands, and glittering lakes. Note: this excursion travels to high elevations, so make sure you are acclimated to the area’s altitude and have your camera battery charged—the scenic panoramas warrant plenty of photo opportunities!
Departing from the trailhead off County Road 365, track the Colorado Trail Segment 21 beneath the timberline. The initial segment of the trail is steep, but don’t let that discourage you, the views at the lake are well worth the effort! Ascend the vertiginous terrain and let the epic alpine views motivate you to persist. Head left at the first junction you meet, and at the next intersection, take a right. Weaving between woodlands and meadows, you will intersect with several snow-melt streams before arriving at the lakes.
From the shoreline of the alpine lakes, you will be rewarded with postcard-worthy sights. Revel in the scenery of the shimmering waters flanked by looming peaks, and when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
