Route Description for Boulder Lake via Fossil Ridge Hike
Featuring mountain views, alpine lakes, lush woodlands and luxuriant meadows, the Boulder Lake via Fossil Ridge Hike is hard to top! As the route travels into high elevations, we suggest acclimating to the area’s altitude before you climb. Furthermore, the terrain is rocky and vertiginous in spots; however, a sturdy pair of hiking shoes can make a world of difference! When trekking in the late fall or – if you are brave enough– in the winter, be sure to strap on a pair of microspikes to navigate the trail more easily.
When you are all ready to roll, begin your hike along Boulder Lake via Fossil Ridge Trail from the Fossil Ridge Trailhead. From here, head northwest along the Fossil Ridge Trail. Shortly after your departure you will encounter an intersection, where you will keep left. The Fossil Ridge Trail will guide you south over several streams before redirecting northwest again. Eventually, you will top the timberline and begin wandering through the alpine terrain. Soon, you will meet the shoreline of the picturesque Boulder Lake.
From the shore of the alpine lake, you will be left speechless! Admire the shimmering blue-hued waters that are hemmed by grand walls of granite and verdant pine trees. Take notice of the impressive Sheep Mountain looming above, as you take in the awe-inspiring scenery. Once you are done reveling in the beautiful view, return to the trailhead by retracing your footing along the route.
