Route Description for Up and Over Trail
Hiking the Up and Over Trail is a guaranteed way to make for a fun afternoon in the San Juan Mountains, as the slightly challenging terrain and beautifully scenic views offer a great reward for your efforts, allowing you to take in the natural beauty of the landscape here.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way to the north and climb up the barren hillside, before entering into the cover of the forest. Turning left along the trail, you will make a short detour to a lookout that offers views of the entire valley and the town of Creede.
From here, head back to the main trail and continue to the north to descend to the forest on the way to the banks of East Willow Creek, which marks the end point of the hike. If you don’t want to retrace your steps, you can simply walk along the roads and back into Creede; otherwise, you can begin climbing up and over the hill once again on the return into the trailhead.
