Route Description for Thompson Lake Hike
Although it isn’t an overly long hiking route, the Thompson Lake Hike is a fun little trail that will be sure to give you a run for your money. The steep terrain, beautiful views, and charming lake all combine to make this a fun and rewarding adventure in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way to the west and begin immediately climbing uphill through the light tree cover. As you wind your way up the mountainside, the trail will briefly turn to the north, before bending back around to the west for the final push up to Thompson Lake.
Once you arrive at the shores of the lake, take some time to explore the area, although you should watch your step as the ground surrounding the water is quite boggy. After pausing for a rest and taking in the views, simply follow the same trail back downhill for the return to your vehicle.
