Route Description for Highland Mary Lake Trail
Whether you plan on completing this hike as a simple out-and-back or want to camp overnight for a fun multi-day trek, the Highland Mary Lake Trail is a fantastic adventure that the entire family will be sure to enjoy. While it isn’t an overly difficult hike, beginners might find the elevation gain and terrain a bit challenging.
Setting out from the parking area, you will follow the road to the southeast and cross over Cunningham Creek, passing by another small parking area before picking up the trail. Here, you will follow along the banks of Cunningham Creek as it winds to the southeast through forests and meadows.
After hiking uphill through the beautifully scenic terrain and gaining a good amount of elevation along the trail, you will arrive at the shores of the three Highland Mary Lakes and enjoy some beautifully scenic views of the surrounding alpine terrain. After taking in the scenery, you can head back down the trail to return to your vehicle below.

The Highland Mary Lake Trailhead can be found on County Road 4, just 4.6mi south of the junction with Animas Forks Road.Route Information
