Route Description for Hippie Hill and Stow Lake Loop Hike
The Hippie Hill and Stow Lake Loop Hike is an easy-going adventure through the natural oasis nestled amongst the busyness of the city. Explore the rose garden, redwood groves, waterfalls, and more along this lovely route. Note the extensive network of trails within the park is poorly signposted and difficult to navigate, so the trail GPS is necessary.
Setting out from the parking lot off Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive, this path travels east past the California Academy of Science, past the AIDS Memorial Grove, and into Hippie Hill. From here, you will be redirected north through the gardens and west past the Conservatory of Flowers. Passing Bunny Meadows, you will wander through the Rose Garden and into the Redwood Memorial Grove. Loop around the Prayerbook Cross before diverting south, over the footbridge onto Strawberry Hill. Hike clockwise along the banks of Stow Lake, past Huntington Falls, and through the wildflowers.
After completing the circuit around the island, head back over the bridge across Stow Lake, turning right and tracking east past the Japanese Tea Garden and back to the parking lot.
