Route Description for City Creek Canyon Trail
The City Creek Canyon Trail is a gorgeous hike just north of downtown Salt Lake. Although this trail is well maintained, it is not stroller or wheelchair-friendly due to its consistently steep grade and occasional rugged patches. This trail can get quite busy with dog-walkers, trail runners, and day-hikers; cyclists are encouraged to use the paved road that runs adjacent to the walking trail. Dogs are allowed along the City Creek Canyon Trail but must be kept on leash for the duration of their hike and are not permitted beyond Picnic site number 16.
The City Creek Canyon trail is a wonderful and welcome contrast to the industrious atmosphere of downtown Salt Lake. Head out on this hike to escape the city and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this lush landscape. From the parking lot at the end of Bonneville Boulevard, follow the trail northeast along City Creek Canyon. Approximately 1.4 km in, you will see a trail branch off to the left, this is the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, keep right to stay on route. Half a mile later, you will reach an intersection with the City Creek Pipeline Trail, stay straight ahead and follow the creek for another 2.7 km to the end of City Creek Canyon Trail at picnic site #17.
This picnic site marks the end of the City Creek Canyon Trail. You can keep going down the canyon along the adjacent road but picnic site 17 is a good spot to turn around and follow the creek back out to the parking lot.
