Route Description for Bonneville Shoreline Trail: Layton Ridge to Fernwood Recreation Area
The hike from Layton Ridge to the Fernwood Recreation Area is a beautiful, family-friendly section of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. Dogs are allowed to join you and your family on this trail, but must be kept on leash the whole time. This trail can be hiked year-round, although it does tend to get muddy and slippery in the spring. If you are hiking in the winter, traction devices such as microspikes are strongly recommended. Our favorite time to hike this route is in the summer when the wildflowers that pepper the Bonneville Shoreline Trail are in full bloom.
From the trailhead on Layton Ridge Drive, follow the well-marked path south to the Fernwood Recreation Area. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Fernwood surrounded by the beauty of the Utah Landscape before calling it a day.
If you are not done exploring, the Bonneville Shoreline Trail continues on for miles and miles in both directions. Still under construction in some areas, this trail will one day stretch 450.6 km from Nephi, Utah to the Idaho border.
