Route Description for Langer Lake Trail
Immerse yourself in the preserved wilderness and hike amongst a diversity of flora and fauna on the Langer Lake Hike. While the main attraction along this route is the crystalline alpine lake, the trek through lush woodlands, scenic meadows, and rock gardens is equally as scenic. Get outside and let the fresh mountain air fill your lungs as you explore the Salmon River Mountains. Most of this route is exposed, offering epic views, but it also warrants extreme conditions, so check the forecast and dress in layers. SPF and plenty of water are also wise.
Setting out from the trailhead off Beaver Creek Road, the Langer Lake Trail wanders northwestwardly, intersecting with a seasonal creek soon after your departure. Persistently climbing, the route will wander through a swathe of pines before exploring an exposed meadow adorned with sagebrush, boulder gardens, and wildflowers. The further you climb, the path will explore an area of fire burn, boasting an eerie ambiance. When taking breaks to rest and rehydrate, enjoy the scene of the surrounding mountains. As you near the lake, the vegetation will become lusher, and the terrain—rockier.
Minding your footing, you will eventually crest Langer Lake. Admire the beauty of the turquoise-hued pool mirroring the Salmon River Mountains and the encircling forestlands. Explore the lake-laden basin; then, when you are through reveling in the gorgeous scene, simply retrace your footing along the path all the way back to the trailhead.
