This scenic nature walk guides its adventurers through the meadow cloaked valley along the riverbank of the Colorado River. The Coyote Valley Trail is also one of few wheelchair accessible hikes in the park.

Route Description for Coyote Valley Hike

The Coyote Trail is the perfect family-friendly nature walk. This well-maintained, paved path is accessible to strollers and wheelchairs alike, how awesome! Hike through the vast subalpine meadow and revel in the gorgeous scenery. Note this trail is entirely exposed. Make sure you check the forecast and dress accordingly. Additionally, this is an epic place to see wildlife; moose, elk, deer, and bears are all common to this area. If you see the wildlife, ensure to give them plenty of space and do not approach them, this is for your safety and theirs. Located within the Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), hikers are required to purchase a park pass

Embark on your adventure along the Coyote Valley Trail from the Trailhead off Trail Ridge Road. From the trailhead, the path will cross the river and loop around a picnic area before guiding you north.

Hike along the Coyote Valley Trail and keep an eye out for wildlife. Enjoy the sounds of the running waters of the Colorado River as you traverse the valley route. As you meander through the meadow-laden path, you will be overwhelmed by the encompassing craggy peaks that line the horizon. Revel in the grandeur of the towering summits as you progress along the path.

Admire the birds flying above and notice anglers that often line the shoreline. Eventually, you will encounter a small sign about halfway across the trail - this is your turnaround point.

If you still have some gas in the tank, you can continue further to the other parking lot before looping back. Either way, retrace your steps to get back to the trailhead.

The Never Summer Mountains sit to the west of the Coyote Valley Hike. The Never Summer Mountains are a mountain range in the Rocky Mountains. Straddling Jackson, Grand, and Larimer Counties, this expansive range consists of seventeen named peaks.

Nestled among the clouds, these craggy summits are almost always capped in snow, giving it their name - The Never Summer Mountains. This wilderness area is a popular destination for hiking, skiing, and backpacking. Compared to the RMNP, the Never Summer Wilderness sees less traffic, so if you are itching for a secluded adventure, consider hiking the Never Summer Mountain Range.
