Route Description for Lyons Ranch Trail
Hiking this path makes for a historical and scenic outing. Wander the dirt route through exposed grassy hillsides to the historic Lyons Ranch. This route is almost entirely exposed to the elements, so make sure you layer on the SPF in the summer months. Additionally, this scenic nature walk is seemingly a hang-out spot for bears, so be mindful as you hike. In addition to bears, this is also a wonderful area for birding—keep an eye out for grasshopper sparrows and acorn woodpeckers!
Setting out from the trailhead, follow the Lyons Ranch Trail southwestwardly. This section is level, leading you to an intersection. Here, keep left, and the Lyons Ranch Trail will begin to gradually descend, revealing wonderful views of the surrounding rolling hills and often grazing elk. Continue hiking, and you will ultimately reach the Lyons Rancho.
Explore the historic homestead and the charming buildings that adorn the grounds—marvel at the beauty of the ruins beneath the shade of lush oak trees. When you are through exploring the terrain, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
