Route Description for Point Reyes Hostel to Arch Rock Hike
The Point Reyes Hostel to Arch Rock Hike offers a diversity of scenery that will please all sorts of adventurers. Explore the fog-shrouded woodlands, exposed cliffside meadowlands, and then head down to the sandy beaches that are often decorated with lounging elephant seals. Due to the route’s proximity to the ocean, you can expect extreme weather conditions—most notoriously, wind. We recommend dressing in layers! Additionally, sections of the path often become muddy in the winter months, so don’t wear your new white runners!
Setting out from the trailhead, the Point Reyes Hostel to Arch Rock Hike follows the Coast Trail. The initial segment of the hike travels through a marshy area and wetlands before opening to the coast. Now hiking southeast along the edge of the headlands, you will be granted impressive views of the surging surf. Remaining on the marked path at all times, you will be guided past the Coast Campground and over a creek.
The route will gently undulate along the shoreline cliffs before delivering you to Coast Creek. Here, track the Arch Rock Trail south to the overlook. Enjoy the views of the Arched Rock as well as the sweeping panoramas and, when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
