Route Description for Piestewa Peak Circumference Hike
The Piestewa Peak Circumference hike is the route that wraps around Piestewa Peak’s base and the base of the ridge to the southeast of it. This trail is much easier than the trek to the summit, so it’s a good pick for hikers who don’t feel ready to climb the whole mountain but who still want to appreciate the scenery of this peak and this part of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Keep in mind that this route uses the Summit Trail for a stretch, and dogs are not allowed on the summit trail.
From the trailhead, hike to the junction. Stay right to hike around the backside of the ridge. The trail turns to head towards Phoenix Mountain Park and then go right onto #304 Nature Trail. Take a left onto #304 Circumference Trail and continue around Piestewa Peak. Stay to the inside of all the junctions until you reach the junction with the trail to the peak, where you’ll stay right to descend down to the park. Cross through the park and stay right down to the trailhead again.
