Route Description for Papago Buttes Out and Back
Papago Park is one of the most popular city parks in Phoenix. If you’re spending some time here, take this hike to check out the Papago Park buttes up close. This route is an easy, fast out and back approach. Take it before or after a picnic or whatever other activities you have planned for your day in the park. The trail is clear, easy to follow, and lined with unique desert plants and cacti.
The footing is mostly hard dirt, so this route is suitable for strollers, and wheelchair users can enjoy it with some assistance over mild inclines.
It’s pretty straightforward to get to the buttes. No, really. From the trailhead, you’ll take Double Butte Loop straight ahead to the buttes, passing the Elliot Ramada and heading up to these red rock sponge-like formations. Spend some time climbing around and exploring before heading back to the trailhead on the same path.
