Route Description for Palisade to Basalt Loop
The Palisade to Basalt Loop is a short, pretty hike through the desert scenery of the Deem Hills Recreation Area in Phoenix. This hike can be done in less than an hour if you’re short on time and it doesn’t present any major challenges. With a short climb, a traverse, and a descent, you’re back at the trailhead.
This route is fine for kids and beginners and dogs are permitted on leash. Even though this is a short hike, remember to bring water with you.
From the trailhead, take the trail on your left as it heads uphill. Stay to the right through two junctions to begin your traverse, enjoying the views of the city. You’ll head downhill, taking a right on Water Tank Road, then another right to the trailhead.
