Route Description for Dreamy Draw to Piestewa Peak
Dreamy Draw to Piestewa Peak is a 9.7 km hike in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve that is rated as hard. This trail begins in the recreation area and climbs through the peaks at the base of Piestewa Peak, finally leading you to the top of the popular local mountain. It’s hard enough to challenge most hikers, but the view from the top of Piestewa never gets old.
This trail is not a good fit for small children as it’s likely to be too demanding. Additionally, please leave your dogs at home for this one. You’ll notice signage restricting dogs in this area for their own health. Bring lots of water for this hike; users report it being very hot many months of the year. Turn back when your water is halfway gone and consider wearing sun protection.
From the trailhead, hike past the restrooms to the bikeway and turn right and walk along the bikeway for a few steps, then cross over to the trail. You’ll follow this main trail (#100) until a fork, where you’ll stay right. Stay right at the next fork, too. On the Voaz Loop, continue to the next fork, where you’ll bear right onto Circumference Trail. This will take you around the base of Piestewa Peak. Bear left to begin the switchbacks up the mountain.
From the top of Piestewa, revel in the view, then descend back down to the Circumference Trail and retrace your steps to the starting point.
