Route Description for Desert Classic Trail
The Desert Classic Trail is an easy hike that stretches from the northeastern corner of Phoenix’s South Mountain Preserve down past the middle of the park to the southwest. This route follows the base of the hills of the preserve, running through wildflower-scattered areas with only mild, occasional elevation changes. This route is used by both hikers and mountain bikers, so remember to share the trail.
This route is point-to-point, so the distance reflects a one-way trip. If you want to hike the entire trail, you’ll need to arrange a car shuttle. If you can't, you can hike as far as you like before turning back. Although this trail is easy, remember to bring lots of water and consider sun protection.
From the Pima Canyon Trailhead, take Desert Classic Trail. You’ll hike southeast for a few steps before hitting a fork where you’ll turn right. The route runs along the base of the ridge to your right. You'll follow the base of the hills the entire way, so simply continue along the trail as it follows the curvature of the ridge and hills. In wildflower season, you’ll be treated to blooms along the trail.
The route ends at the trailhead off E Desert Foothills Parkway.
