Route Description for Apache Wash Loop Trail
Apache Wash Loop Trail is a relaxed 4.5 km hike north of Phoenix, Arizona. This hike is a great choice for families, beginners, or anyone interested in a chilled-out stroll through Sonoran Desert scenery. With saguaro, barrel cactus, and wildlife to see, you’ll feel more removed from the city than you actually are. This hike is easy to get to from the northern reaches of the metro area.
While this might be a short, easy trail, remember to always bring water with you while you hike in the desert. Consider wearing sun protection no matter what time of year it is and aim to hike outside of the heat of the afternoon if high temperatures are forecasted. The signage on this hike is good.
Our route travels counterclockwise. From the trailhead, head to your right to pick up Apache Wash Trail. Cross the wash and hike along its bank. There are a few trails that intersect, but you’ll follow the wash as it loops around the hill in its center. Continue around this hill in the wash, then climb out and finish your lap around the hill’s west side. You’ll follow Apache Wash Trail all the way back to the trailhead.
