Walking the Greenfield Circular route is a great adventure through some varied terrain that will take you from the edge of Dovestone Reservoir to the top of Ashway Moss. While out on the walk, you will experience the calm atmosphere along the edge of the water before climbing some rocky terrain and visiting a small cascading waterfall on the way up the moor. There is a bit of challenging terrain on this walk and weather can sometimes be an issue, but if you are ready to brave the elements for a fun adventure then this is the perfect route for you.

Route Description for Greenfield Waterfall Circular

While the majority of the Greenfield Waterfall Circular Walk in Peak District NP is not over challenging, there is a technical stretch near the waterfall that will require some light scrambling. It is best to wear proper walking footwear and avoid this trail in wet conditions in order to secure the best footing. Additionally, weather atop Saddleworth Moor can change very quickly, so come prepared with any outdoor clothing or equipment that you may need for this walk.

Even with the challenging upper portion of the trail, the Greenfield Waterfall Circular is a fantastic walking route that will leave you feeling like a true adventurer. The route sets out from the Dovestone Reservoir and follows closely along its edge, before climbing uphill along Holme Clough to visit a small waterfall. After climbing up the rocky terrain, you will pass the unique rock formation known as the Trinnacles and walk the edge of Ashway Moss, before descending the moor on the return journey around the reservoir. This is a great day-walk for those who want a bit of adventure without anything too strenuous.

Setting out from the car park, follow the path to the east and turn left to walk along the western edge of the Dovestone Reservoir. Enjoy the views across the water with the moor in behind, as you continue along the trail for the next 0.5 km. Cross over the bridge that spans the spillway and follow the trail as it bends to the right, continuing on for another 1.0 km until the trail meets up with the road. Turn right, followed by the next left to make your way along the edge of the Yeoman Hey Reservoir.

Continue on for 1.3 km, keeping left at the fork to eventually arrive at the edge of the much smaller Greenfield Reservoir. Work your way around the edge of the water and follow the path as it runs parallel to Holme Clough, climbing uphill with the rock formation of Ravenstone Brow overhead. After visiting a small cascading waterfall, keep straight through the junctions and continue to climb uphill along the rocky terrain until the path breaks away from the flowing stream in a western direction.

Make your way along the trail for 0.9 km, passing by the unique gritstone pillars known as the Trinnacles, before arriving at a fork. Head left here to cut across the moorland terrain of Ashway Moss and follow the trail downhill, taking in the picturesque views of the countryside and reservoirs below. When you come to a junction near Celebration Wood, head left and cross over the bridge, making your way along the through intermittent stretches of woodland and open terrain for the next 1.6 km.

Arriving at a junction with Chew Road, follow it to the right to pass between the tree cover of the Dovestone Reservoir Memorial Forest and the Chew Plantation. After 0.6 km, you will arrive back at the car park, having completed the Greenfield Waterfall Circular Walk.
